The Challenge of Children

A study group for parents

4 evening sessions
Mondays, September 14, 21, 28 and October 5, 2009
7:00 - 9:00 pm
The Children's Farm School Room

Confused by conflicting advice about parenting? Tired of just coping? Wanting to raise an independent, responsible and loving child, yet searching for the ways to do this in reality? This study group can help you become the kind of parent you really want to be: a respectful, caring adult who can enjoy your children both now and in the future.

Children are all individuals, just as each family is an individual learning situation for a child. To balance the needs of each child, understand the needs of your children as they interact together, and be aware of your own needs is, indeed, a challenge. This study group offers a chance to step back and examine your philosophy and parenting goals. It will give you new guidelines to a solid parenting approach that is neither too permissive nor too punitive and is both sensible and caring.

The group discussion sessions use readings from psychological theory and recent research in child development and learning. Some topics included will be "Raising a Confident Child", "Your Child's Social Learning", and "Twenty-Five Ways to Say No... with love and Respect". Facilitator Nancy Jones adds from her experiences as a parent and educator for over 30 years. Insights gained from the Children's Farm where children work and play together offer examples of the potential and the joy of "Growing Children".
